PCB Prototype Manufacturing

PCB prototyping refers to rapid prototype PCBAs used to test the functionality of a new electronic design.These help with quality assurance, verifying that the test product is free of problems, finding bugs, and updating the design. Typically, an electronics project will require 2-3 iterations of SMT assembly to make sure everything is working properly before mass production.

The purpose of prototyping is to detect if there are still problems with the PCB and clear the way for mass production of the product.

Prototype PCB Manufacturing Steps

Prototype PCB manufacturing involves six steps, and care needs to be taken to execute each step to ensure it works as intended. These steps include:

1. Material selection

At the beginning, manufacturers need to choose the material for the PCBA prototype. Generally, they will choose plastic, which is the first choice for PCBA prototyping. Since this material is easy to use, it is easy to fold and mold.

2. rapid design

This step is done on the template, and the location of components and connecting wires are confirmed during the rapid design phase.

3, test design

In this step, the manufacturer aims to test the functionality of the design, they will check the location of components and connections are designed correctly.

4. Rectification and redesign

If any errors are found in the design, then the PCB manufacturer will carry out rectification and redesign. They may need to redesign the prototype using new connection traces on the template to ensure that the prototype performs.

5. Rapid Prototyping

This step involves prototyping. The entire process can be completed quickly using a template, with all components mounted in the exact location on the board, just as designed by the computer-aided design software.

6. Functional Testing

The final step is designed to test the functionality of the finished PCBA prototype. If all the features work as expected, then the manufacturer will move on to the next step - mass production.
